ESL One Munich 2027 Sets $1 Million Dota 2 Prize Pool
ESL FACEIT Group will hold ESL One Munich 2027 from April 4 to 11, with 16 teams competing for a $1 million Dota 2 prize pool in Munich.
ESL FACEIT Group will hold ESL One Munich 2027 from April 4 to 11, bringing 16 international Dota 2 teams to Munich, Bavaria. The tournament will offer the largest single prize pool of the current ESL Pro Tour season.
The live arena stage will run from April 9 to 11 at BMW Park. The venue has an interactive glass LED floor that can display audience visuals and live match data during games.
ESL One Munich will serve as the ESL Pro Tour’s primary midseason invitational. Results will affect team seeding and invitations for the annual Esports World Cup in Riyadh.
Tobias Fjellander, ESL FACEIT Group’s senior product manager for Dota 2, described BMW Park as a venue for testing new ways to present the game to live audiences. He added that the operator planned to build on the response to ESL One Birmingham and welcome the Dota 2 community to Munich in 2027.
Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs Fabian Mehring and Christian Scharpf, head of Munich’s Department of Labour and Economic Development, have publicly supported the tournament. Mehring described esports as a combination of teamwork, strategy and quick decision-making. He added that Bavaria was investing in gaming, esports clubs and major events.
Scharpf pointed to Munich’s technology industry and BMW Park’s history as a sports venue. The city is home to several global companies and has hosted international sporting events.
ESL One Munich is part of increased competition among tournament operators after Valve ended the regional Dota Pro Circuit in September 2023. Romanian operator PGL has pledged $13 million in Dota 2 prize money from 2025 through 2028.
Large tournament prize pools have not removed financial pressure from professional teams. Norwegian organisation HEROIC disbanded its Dota 2 roster earlier in 2026 despite recording strong results in South America.
