CS2 update adds 3v3 Rush, new Premier map pick and chicken egg

Valve released a Counter-Strike 2 update in 2026 that adds a three-versus-three Rush mode, restores clan tags and silent reload, changes Premier map selection, introduces eight crosshair styles and places a Chicken Egg in some weekly drops.

The Premier map selection replaces the traditional veto. Under the new process Team 1 picks one map, Team 2 picks two maps, then Team 1 picks a final map. One of the four selected maps is then chosen at random to start the match. Valve wrote in the patch notes that the change aims to reduce the dominance of Mirage and Dust 2 and encourage players to select a wider range of maps.

Crosshair settings now include eight styles: Static Cross, Static Circle, Dot Only, Dynamic Cross, Dynamic Circle, Dynamic Cross Classic, Dynamic Quad and Classic Dynamic Cross with shot feedback. Dynamic Quad is set as the default; it combines a fixed central crosshair with a separate quad that expands based on weapon accuracy. The update also adds an improved color picker, an adjuster for dynamic cross limits and an option to add a short delay to unscope that keeps the scope view before firing is re-enabled.

Competitive and social features returned or arrived with the update. Clan tags are restored so team identifiers appear next to player names again, and silent reload has been reintroduced. The Rush mode shifts play toward shorter, faster engagements compared with standard five-on-five matches.

Some players report receiving a Chicken Egg as a weekly drop. The egg was not listed in the patch notes. Extracted game files point to a pet system that includes a tracking diary, accessory items and a Photobook feature with wearable ‘Silly Hats’ for pets. For now the egg functions as a collectible inventory item while the in-game pet interface remains under development.

Valve released the update through Counter-Strike 2’s normal update channels. The patch combines map selection changes, new crosshair options, gameplay updates and early pet items in a single release.
