BLAST Open Season 3 2027 to be held in U.S. with new format

BLAST will hold Open Season 3 2027 in the United States from Sept. 3 to 12, 2027. The tournament will use a new format with a 16-team Swiss play-in and an eight-team playoff in an arena.

The play-in will take place in a LAN environment over five days. All 16 teams will compete in the Swiss bracket, with the eight teams that advance moving on to the playoff stage.

The new format replaces the structure used at previous BLAST Open events. Those tournaments featured 16 teams split into two groups, followed by a six-team playoff.

Eleven of the 16 teams will receive direct invitations through the Valve Regional Standings. The other five places will be decided through regional qualifiers, with North America receiving one qualifying place as the host region.

BLAST had previously scheduled a BLAST Bounty season for the September 2027 calendar slot. Open Season 3 2027 will now take its place.
