FalleN credits Boombl4’s new ideas in FURIA win

FURIA beat BETBOOM in the PGL Masters Bucharest quarterfinals, with Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo praising Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov’s Dust2 tactics.

FURIA advanced to the PGL Masters Bucharest semifinals by beating BETBOOM in the quarterfinals. The Brazilian team won Dust2 and Cache 13-6 and will face MOUZ in the next round.

BETBOOM challenged FURIA on Dust2 after introducing tactics that differed from its recent matches. FURIA had a chance to finish the map earlier, but BETBOOM mounted a comeback with aggressive plays from long. FURIA eventually closed the map after Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis won a 1v2 situation.

“I like the way Boombl4 thinks about the game,” FalleN said. “If you go and watch what they have been doing on Dust2 in the last matches, there’s nothing about it similar to what he’d done here, so he was able to really bring something new to the table, and it worked.”

The teams traded tense rounds during the first half on Cache. FURIA gained control after the break when BETBOOM’s attempts to change the pace failed to produce a response.

FalleN explained that FURIA had prepared for Ancient rather than Cache during the veto. The team therefore used a more flexible style on the T side, with less familiar plays that produced several kills and prevented BETBOOM from repeating the approach used in their previous meetings.

FURIA have now won their last four matches against BETBOOM. FalleN described the record as an incomplete reflection of the series between the teams, pointing to several matches in which BETBOOM had chances to win.

“I feel like you cannot say it’s a dead beat, or we’re always beating them, because they had many chances in many of those games,” FalleN said. “I think it’s been a little bit unlucky for them that they’re not able to get those wins, and maybe a little bit of a mental factor too.”

The result gives FURIA consecutive top-four finishes after the team won the Thunderpick World Championship at its previous tournament. FalleN attributed the team’s recent form to changes in its practice schedule, clearer responsibilities and new elements in its game. He also linked the earlier title to improved confidence.

FURIA’s semifinal against MOUZ will be the next test. FalleN described MOUZ as one of the world’s strongest teams and noted that it had performed well after adding a new player and moving Dorian “xertioN” Berman into the in-game leader role.

“MOUZ is a team that’s been very difficult to play against,” FalleN said. “It is going to be a challenging game. Both teams have chances. I feel like we can beat them, and I think they can beat us as well. It’s going to be up to who can play better on the day.”
