Vitality reach IEM Cologne playoffs after 2-1 win over BetBoom - news.white.market

Vitality beat BetBoom 2-1 at IEM Cologne on June 14 to clinch a LANXESS Arena playoff spot, avenging a 2-1 loss to the same team at IEM Atlanta.

Vitality beat BetBoom 2-1 at the IEM Cologne Major on June 14, securing a place in the LANXESS Arena playoffs and avenging a 2-1 defeat to the same Russian squad at IEM Atlanta. The Paris-based team became the fourth to clinch a playoff berth, joining Spirit, FURIA and Aurora.

The series opened on Vitality’s map pick, Overpass. Robin “ropz” Kool and Shahar “flameZ” Shushan won a 2v4 pistol round that helped Team Vitality take early control. BetBoom recovered once they had rifles and the teams went into halftime tied 6-6.

After the switch, Timur “FL4MUS” Marev’s quad kill secured BetBoom the second-half pistol. Vitality’s force buy disrupted BetBoom’s momentum and Vitality closed the map 13-8.

BetBoom picked Nuke for the second map. Vitality led 8-4 at halftime but produced a weak T-side in the second half. The match reached a late finish when a hero buy and a last-second site hit delivered the final rounds for a 13-11 map win and the series victory.

Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut led Vitality with a 53-24 K-D, 108.9 ADR and a 1.66 rating. Robin “ropz” and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire recorded ratings of 1.25 and 1.11. Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov was BetBoom’s top performer with a 36-34 K-D and a 1.28 rating.

Vitality reached the playoffs after a group stage that included a 2-1 win over FUT on June 11, a 1-2 loss to 9z on June 12 and a 2-1 win over MOUZ on June 13. The win over BetBoom on June 14 completed the run and secured their spot in the LANXESS Arena.

After the match, ZywOo acknowledged the team’s inconsistencies: “We are facing great teams at this Major, but we are also not playing the best CS. We are making too many individual mistakes, not refragging, not playing together, so sometimes we’re making it a rough game for ourselves. We need to find out the way we want to play, and the way we used to play before, to find our playstyle again. I also think in playoffs we’re going to play different, because we like to play on stage.”

BetBoom’s defeat ended their group run at Cologne.
