Valve ships Proton 11.0-2, improving Linux and Steam Deck support

Valve has released Proton 11.0-2, the latest stable build of its Windows-to-Linux compatibility layer, for Linux and SteamOS users including Steam Deck owners. The update is available now through Steam, adds official support for nine games, and fixes compatibility issues in Marvel Rivals, Diablo IV, Hitman World of Assassination, Forza 6 and Helldivers 2.

Proton is the software that lets Windows games run on Linux and SteamOS. By updating Proton, Valve addresses problems introduced by recent game patches and expands the number of titles that work out of the box on Steam Deck and other Linux systems.

Version 11.0-2 now officially supports AsteroidsHD, Heroes of the Three Kingdoms 7, Konkan Coast Pirate Solutions, Otherworld Legends, Plain Sight, Portal Worlds, SMILE GAME BUILDER, Tetrageddon Games and Warhammer: Dark Omen (Classic).

Alongside the stable release, seven games were added to Proton Experimental, a testing branch that previews upcoming compatibility. The current additions include Elderfield Demo, The Rabbit’s Scroll, Blair Witch VR, Elisa: The Innkeeper – Prequel and City Car Driving.

SteamOS users can enable Proton Experimental for an individual game by opening the game’s Properties, selecting Compatibility, checking “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool,” and choosing Proton Experimental. It can be turned on system-wide by pressing the Steam button, opening Settings, going to System, and switching on Enable Developer Mode.
