Simpkins and Winkle join UK Esports Advisory Panel

Jeff Simpkins and Jon Winkle have joined the UK Esports Advisory Panel, adding team and grassroots representation to its policy discussions with the UK government.

Jeff Simpkins and Jon Winkle have joined the UK Esports Advisory Panel, which advises the UK government on competitive gaming policy.

Simpkins is chair of the UK Esports Team Committee, national team manager for Great Britain at the Esports Nations Cup and Rocket League lead at The Football Association. His appointment adds experience in team governance and links to established sports organisations.

Winkle is managing director of EPIC.LAN, an independent event operator that runs competitions for amateur and tier-two players. He was recently shortlisted for Access and Grassroots Champion in Esports at the Esports Leaders Honours 2025–26.

Winkle had previously criticised the panel’s formation. He said joining would give grassroots event organisers a direct route into policy discussions. The panel is due to visit EPIC49, an EPIC.LAN event, to observe its operations. Winkle will moderate a livestreamed stage session with representatives from Ukie and the British Esports Federation.

Creative Industries Minister Ian Murray announced the panel in April 2026. Trade body Ukie convenes the panel, which provides a channel for communication between the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the competitive gaming industry.

The panel advises ministers on commercial sustainability, international event logistics, digital skills and education across the UK. Its existing members include representatives from Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Riot Games, Team Liquid, Fnatic, BLAST and ESL FACEIT Group, as well as Esports Wales and Scottish Esports.

Simpkins and Winkle are expected to attend the panel’s first formal working meeting with Department for Culture, Media and Sport officials later in October. Members will set policy priorities at the meeting.
