Overwatch World Cup 2026 sets record with 401K peak viewers

The Overwatch World Cup 2026 Grand Final reached more than 401,000 concurrent viewers at peak, the largest single-match audience in the competition’s history. The final was held on Sept. 13 at BlizzCon 2026 in Anaheim and featured South Korea and Saudi Arabia. South Korea won the match and claimed its fourth Overwatch World Cup title.

The full event generated more than 10.1 million Hours Watched, a series record and an increase of 83.7% compared with the 2023 tournament. Average concurrent viewership across the event rose to 173,100, up 34.2% from 2023.

Matches were streamed on more than 600 unique channels, about eight times the number used in 2023. English-language broadcasts accounted for more than two-thirds of total Hours Watched. Twitch captured 77.5% of watch time, with the remainder on YouTube and regional streaming services. The official ow_esports Twitch channel reached over 140,500 peak viewers for its most-watched broadcast, the channel’s strongest performance since 2019.

Sixteen national teams took part in the World Cup, including the 2023 finalists and winners of regional qualifying events. Saudi Arabia, the 2023 champion, returned to the final and finished as runner-up.

The tournament returned after a three-year hiatus. The final stage was staged at BlizzCon to coincide with the annual fan and developer event. Organizers expanded distribution to additional broadcasters and languages compared with 2023.

The next major Overwatch event is the Overwatch Champions Series 2026 World Finals, scheduled for Dec. 2–6 in Guangzhou, China. The event will feature eight top club teams; last year’s Champions Series title was won by Twisted Minds, a Saudi Arabian organization.
