Minecraft Snapshot 10 Reverts Drowned, Adds Dappled Forest

Mojang released Java Edition Snapshot 10 on August 26, 2026. The update reverts recent changes to the Drowned mob, adds a Dappled Forest main-menu scene with an Abandoned Camp, and includes performance improvements for locating structures.

The snapshot’s changelog reads: “Reverted recent changes to Drowned behavior and animations from this release cycle.” That restores Drowned actions to their Snapshot 1 state. Beginning in Snapshot 2, Drowned within three blocks of a player were made to use tridents for melee attacks rather than throwing them. Subsequent development builds adjusted animations and fixed related visual issues. Mojang has not published a reason for the rollback.

The Dappled Forest appears in the game’s main-menu artwork and includes an Abandoned Camp in the scene. The update does not list any changes to world generation beyond the new menu visuals.

Players should notice faster results when using in-game tools to search for structures. The patch notes describe optimizations for structure-location features intended to reduce load times and make exploration tools respond more quickly.

Snapshot builds are available only for the Java Edition. To install Snapshot 10, open the Minecraft launcher, enable snapshots in the Installations tab, and launch the snapshot profile. Back up worlds before running development builds to avoid potential data loss.
