Leaked GTA 5 Files Include Liberty City Assets, Early GTA 6 Map

Files from Rockstar’s GTA 5 source code posted Sept. 18 include expanded Liberty City assets and early GTA 6 map placeholders totaling roughly 192GB, prompting fan speculation about a Liberty City DLC.

An archive of development files from Rockstar’s GTA 5 repositories surfaced on forums and social media in the early hours of Sept. 18. The collection totals about 192GB and was posted with a breakdown by a leaker using the handle TJGM.

The material appears to combine two distinct sets of assets. One group consists of low-level detail (LOD) placeholder files tied to an early GTA 6 map of the fictional state of Leonida. A separate, larger set contains a Liberty City build reportedly created for a planned GTA 5/GTA Online expansion that was later shelved. The leaker described the Liberty City build as “pretty massive” and highlighted a file labeled “new terrain.”

Screenshots included in the archive show low-quality 3D renders dated between 2020 and 2022. Observers matched blocky building models and simple geometry to locations such as an international airport, a sports stadium, docks, a cruise terminal and downtown Vice City. The visuals appear to be placeholder work rather than final in-game art.

The Liberty City content in the files differs from the city seen in GTA 4 and contains terrain assets that suggest more than a straightforward reuse of older maps. Because those assets were never released, some players have speculated they could be repurposed or reworked as post-launch content for GTA 6; the archive itself contains no confirmation of such plans.

The leak also reportedly includes other unused material: vehicle models cut from GTA 5 and files tied to a scrapped Trevor Philips story DLC. Parts of unused Trevor material were later repurposed for GTA Online content, indicating some internal reuse of assets in past projects.

Rockstar has not commented on the Sept. 18 archive. Earlier in 2026 the studio described an August wave of leaked gameplay clips as “heartbreaking” and said that footage did not reflect the finished game. Parent company Take-Two has pursued legal avenues to identify leakers and filed subpoenas as part of that effort.

GTA 6 is scheduled to release on Nov. 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The newly surfaced files appeared roughly two months before that launch and, based on their contents and timestamps, appear to be development leftovers and placeholder map assets rather than completed GTA 6 content. No official announcement has confirmed Liberty City will appear in GTA 6 or as post-launch downloadable content.
