FC Barcelona Ends Five-Year League of Legends Esports Run

FC Barcelona’s esports division announced Tuesday, Oct. 20, that the 2026 season was its last in League of Legends. The club will not compete in Spain’s Liga Española de League of Legends in 2027.

The organization thanked its League of Legends players, coaches, broadcast staff and fans. FC Barcelona entered competitive League of Legends in December 2021 and presented its first roster at an event attended by club president Joan Laporta. The team later played an exhibition match against Movistar Riders before joining Spain’s top national competition in 2022.

Barça finished third in the 2022 Spring Split and qualified for the European Masters, its first international League of Legends tournament. The team finished second in the 2024 Superliga Summer Split and returned to the EMEA Masters.

In 2025, Barça reached the EMEA Masters Spring final, where Los Ratones won 3-0. During its final season, the team finished second in the 2026 LES Kick-off, fourth in the Spring Split, third in the Summer Split and fourth in the Final Four. It also qualified for the winter and summer EMEA Masters events.

FC Barcelona will continue its VALORANT program in 2027. The club entered the game in 2024, won Spain’s second split in 2026 and finished as the overall VALORANT Rising Spain champion. It did not qualify for VCT EMEA.

The club applied for a place in Riot Games’ VCT EMEA partnership program for 2027 and 2028 but was not selected. It will instead seek qualification through the open system, with qualifiers scheduled to begin in November 2026.

FC Barcelona will retain its Game Changers team for another season and seek qualification for the international Game Changers Championship. The organization plans to announce roster renewals and new signings for its 2027 VALORANT teams in the coming weeks.
