Co-streaming lifts 2026 Pokémon Worlds to record viewers

The 2026 Pokémon World Championships ran August 28–31 in San Francisco at the Moscone Center and Chase Center and recorded new peak concurrent viewership numbers. The Video Game Championships (VGC) reached 215.6K peak viewers during the finals.

The event featured four main titles: Video Game Championships (VGC), Trading Card Game (TCG), Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE. All four set new peak-viewer marks for the World Championships series. The TCG, UNITE and GO finals each surpassed 150K peak concurrent viewers.

Organizers attributed the audience increase in part to a rise in community casting. Nearly every competition had more than 100 unique broadcasting channels carrying the action, up from last year when only the UNITE final exceeded 50 co-streamers. Prominent content creators who co-cast VGC coverage included Sergio “knekro” García, Leslie “fuslie” Fu and Miyoung “kkatamina” Kim. Official event channels continued to draw the largest individual audiences, with live-streaming platforms widely used by viewers.

On the competitive side, the VGC final was an all-Japanese matchup between Takuma Yamazaki and Hiroshi Onishi, with Yamazaki winning the title 2–1. In cumulative watch time, three of the four competitions from the 2026 championships ranked among the top three on the series’ all-time list; the UNITE final ranked seventh.

PokémonXP, the franchise’s first official fan convention, ran alongside the tournaments and drew thousands of attendees across both venues. Organizers said the convention added interviews and on-site features that were available to viewers on livestreams.

The Pokémon Company used the event weekend for several announcements. Updates were provided on the Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu series and an upcoming update for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket app. President and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara announced a new film, Pokémon Wild Card, scheduled for 2027. The company also confirmed the 2027 Pokémon World Championships will take place at the Singapore EXPO from August 13–15, 2027.

Organizers attributed the higher concurrent viewership to the combination of expanded community casting and the concurrent fan convention, alongside official livestream coverage.
