B8 Upsets Vitality on Dust2 to Reach Esports World Cup Playoffs

B8 defeated Vitality 2-1 at the Esports World Cup to secure a place in the tournament playoffs. The Ukrainian squad won the decider on Dust2 after splitting Mirage and Inferno with the French team.

On Mirage, B8 built a five-round T-side lead with strong performances from Danylo “s1zzi” Vinnyk and Dmytro “esenthial” Tsvir. B8 reached an 11-7 advantage on defense, but Vitality won nine of the next 10 rounds and closed the map in overtime.

On Inferno, Vitality recovered from a lost pistol to lead 9-3 on the CT side. B8 reversed the score after switching to defense, with Artem “kensizor” Kapran anchoring A and effective utility in Banana disrupting Vitality’s attacks. An overpeek by Dan “apEX” Madesclaire and a missed flank by Robin “ropz” Kool were among the errors that allowed B8 to mount a comeback and force a decider.

Dust2 decided the series. B8 controlled both halves, applied pressure to Vitality’s offensive setups and converted several key rounds. Andrii “npl” Kukharskyi led B8 with 56 kills, 40 deaths, an 85.6 ADR and a 1.25 rating. Danylo “s1zzi” Vinnyk finished 54-41 with an 80.6 ADR and a 1.19 rating, and Dmytro “esenthial” Tsvir ended 49-43 with a 77.4 ADR and a 1.08 rating. For Vitality, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut recorded 49-46 with a 1.17 rating, Shahar “flameZ” Shushan was 49-49 with a 1.15 rating, and Robin “ropz” Kool finished 51-43 with a 1.02 rating. William “mezii” Merriman posted 34-43 (0.85) and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire recorded 32-53 (0.74).

On the broadcast, Andrii “npl” Kukharskyi commented: “We are very happy obviously, everyone, because we felt before the tournament we were in very good shape. We had very good pracs, we even had one prac against Vitality on Dust2, which helped us a little bit.”

B8 entered the event having lost seven straight matches on Mirage prior to this tournament. Vitality have now lost Dust2 four times in a row. Vitality also began the season with losses to Liquid and B8 and did not reach the top eight at the IEM Cologne Major. Paternity leave is expected for William “mezii” Merriman and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire.
