Zonic: ‘Part of my Astralis heart’ glad to silence GOAT talk

After Falcons beat Vitality in the IEM Cologne Major quarter-final, coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen said part of his Astralis heart was glad the win quieted the GOAT debate.

Falcons eliminated Vitality in the quarter-finals of the IEM Cologne Major in Cologne, ending Vitality’s attempt to win a third straight Major. The best-of-three went the distance, with all three maps reaching round 24.

After the match, coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen described the moment as special and said he was exhausted after a long day in the arena. He noted the result denied Vitality a chance to match Astralis’s record of four Major titles. “A little part of my Astralis heart was also happy that we maybe denied a little bit of the conversation about the GOAT status,” he said.

Sørensen praised Vitality’s individual play and team communication, saying players were “extremely sharp” and connected in the rounds. He pointed out several anti-force rounds Falcons lost and said those mistakes mattered, but overall the team secured key rounds when it counted.

He mentioned the match was the first meeting with karrigan in Vitality’s lineup and that the change created a different rhythm. Sørensen added that Vitality’s cohesion remained strong despite the personnel change.

Looking ahead, Sørensen warned Falcons must maintain the same level to advance. He described Spirit, the team Falcons will face next, as one of the strongest at the event based on Stage 2 and Stage 3 performances and said Falcons must match a standout individual while keeping clear communication. “The job is not done, we take it one game at a time,” he added.

The win moves Falcons deeper into the Major knockout stage and ends Vitality’s run at IEM Cologne.
