Week 28: Fnatic wins, roster moves and patch update

Fnatic captured the ESL Challenger League Season 52 Europe Cup 1 title with their new five-man lineup, defeating SPARTA, BRUTE and HOTU in the playoffs. The team took the $4,000 prize and qualified for the Season 52 Europe Finals.

Artem “cairne” Mushynskyi led Fnatic across the event, posting a 1.48 average rating over 12 maps and a 2.24 rating in the title series that included a 13-0 map on Ancient. Nikita “jackasmo” Skyba produced a 1.97 rating in the final, Rodion “fEAR” Smyk recorded a 1.52 rating, Volodymyr “mazay” Iorhachov averaged 1.51 in the playoffs, and Dmytro “jambo” Semerajambo finished with a 1.09 rating. Fnatic won its matches in the knockout rounds to secure the Cup and the slot in the regional finals.

HOTU underperformed in the final bracket. Kim “frontales” Argunov posted a 0.75 rating; Aleksandr “dwushka” Pakhnevich had 0.55, Dmitry “mizu” Kondratev 0.53, David “n0rb3r7” Danielyan 0.42 and Aidos “kade0” Khairzhan 0.24, with low ADRs across the lineup during the series.

BC.Game’s new roster arrived at the team bootcamp ahead of its debut at Elisa Esports Breakout Series 1 on July 31. The assembled players include Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, Ayush “mzinho” Batbold and Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold, who have been streaming point-of-view pickup matches while preparing for the event.

In North America, NRG signed Håkon “hallzerk” Fjærli as their AWPer and reinstated Jeorge “Jeorge” Endicott to the active roster. With head coach Damian “daps” Steele acting as in-game stand-in, NRG won the FRAG St. Clair event, beating SportsBetExpert 3-1 in the grand final. Aran “Sonic” Groesbeek led NRG statistically with a 1.64 rating and 104.5 ADR; Michael “Grim” Wince posted a 1.10 rating, Nick “nitr0” Cannella a 1.07, Damian “daps” Steele a 1.04 and Jeorge a 1.02.

A patch was deployed overnight updating Fachwerk, Boulder, Shelter and El Dorado to their latest workshop versions. The update also included stability and security fixes for the game files. Tournament organizers and teams may adjust practice plans when maps are updated close to events.

One week remains before many top teams return to regular-season play, and organizations have continued finalizing rosters and holding bootcamps. Fnatic’s Cup result advances them into the Season 52 Europe Finals; other teams are completing preparations for the upcoming competitive schedule.
