The MongolZ reach IEM Beijing playoffs after HEROIC win

The MongolZ defeated HEROIC in the playoff decider at IEM Beijing, securing a top-six finish and a place in the tournament playoffs. They won Inferno 13-7 before taking Nuke in overtime.

The Mongolians controlled Inferno after a strong CT-side performance. HEROIC responded on Nuke, their map pick, but The MongolZ held leads of 10-7 and 12-10 without closing out the match in regulation.

Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin’s quad-kill helped HEROIC force overtime. The MongolZ also lost several late-round situations after poor spacing. Yesuntumur “nin9” Gantulga then produced a 1v2 clutch after a smart rotation in overtime. Sodbayar “Techno” Munkhbold added another 1v2 to end HEROIC’s resistance.

Nin9 posted a 1.86 rating across the 12 overtime rounds. Anarbileg “cobrazera” Uuganbayar led The MongolZ with a 1.30 rating, followed by Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch on 1.06. Brollan and Antonio “MartinezSa” Martinez were HEROIC’s highest-rated players, both finishing on 1.15.

Techno described the result as especially meaningful because the team will play on stage in China. “I’m glad nin9 won that clutch, it was an important round,” he added.

The result ends The MongolZ’s run of four consecutive ninth-place finishes at Big Events. The team signed nin9 before IEM Beijing, and he made his playoff-deciding impact in overtime against HEROIC.

HEROIC dropped to the lower bracket and will face Falcons in an elimination match.
