Spirit beat M80 to claim final ESL Pro League playoff spot

Spirit defeated M80 2-0 to secure the final playoff berth at ESL Pro League Season 24 and qualify for the arena stage at the Spodek. Spirit won Dust2 13-6 and Cache 13-10.

The result came on Spirit’s third attempt to qualify for the arena stage. The team had previously lost to MOUZ and 1win.

Spirit controlled Dust2 from the opening rounds and built a strong lead in the first half, with Danil “donk” Kryshkovets leading the attack. M80 won the second-half pistol after Josh “JBa” Barutt recorded four kills, but could not maintain its momentum. Spirit regained control and closed the map 13-6, with donk, Myroslav “zont1x” Plakhotia and Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov contributing several kills.

M80 started better on Cache, its map pick, and led 8-4 at halftime. Spirit stayed close after Boris “magixx” Vorobiev won a 1v4 ace clutch and sh1ro followed with a 1v3 two rounds later.

M80 continued to win opening duels after the side switch and reached the bombsites with weaker weapons. Spirit won several late-round fights, with donk, magixx and sh1ro helping the team take seven consecutive rounds and move ahead.

M80 ended the streak, but Spirit responded immediately and closed Cache 13-10. Magixx finished the series with 34 kills, while donk had 41 and sh1ro 33. JBa led M80 with 37 kills.

M80 player Fritz “slaxz-” Dietrich summed up the team’s loss with the comment: “There are too many cooks in the kitchen.”
