sAw: G2 are stagnating after recent losses
G2 coach Eetu “sAw” Saha said the team is stagnating, or has taken a step backward, after losing its first two series at PGL Masters Bucharest.
G2 coach Eetu “sAw” Saha described the team’s recent form as stagnation, or a possible step backward, after it lost its first two series at PGL Masters Bucharest. He linked the defeats to poor late-round decisions, communication problems and a lack of coordination.
G2 lost both series 0-2 despite playing four close maps. The latest defeat came against Aurora, which won several important rounds. In one, woxic completed a 2v5 clutch. In another, kyxsan secured multiple kills from Sandbags in a 3v5 situation while G2’s players failed to react together.
“There’s no prize in getting it close and then losing,” Saha said. “Giving them rounds when the score is so close, it’s the difference-maker rounds a lot of the times, and that’s the way we are losing these matches.”
Saha identified late-round decision-making as a continuing issue. G2’s players need to make better individual decisions while staying connected as a team, particularly when they have a numbers advantage or are trying to close out a round.
He described situations in which a player peeks alone instead of waiting for teammates because they want to finish the round. The coach linked the problem to both tactics and communication.
“It’s a bit of both,” Saha said. “It might not exactly be that we understand what’s happening, and it might be a communication issue here and there. In the end, it’s a lot about playing it, being on the same page and understanding the situation as a team.”
Saha added that these situations are difficult to correct because the details change from round to round. Players may have different health levels, weapons, utility and map control, while the teammates involved can also vary. G2 therefore needs to improve its general decision-making rather than memorize individual scenarios.
The team has won one of its last six series after finishing second at FISSURE Playground 3, according to Saha. G2 also exited ESL Pro League with a 1-3 record, giving the roster additional practice time before the Bucharest tournament.
“There’s always worry because we want to take steps forward and right now it’s like we’re stagnating or maybe even took a couple of steps backward in that way,” Saha said. “You want to see improvement, and right now of course we had some time to practice from home, so you wanted to see more improvement.”
G2 must win its remaining matches to keep its playoff hopes alive in Bucharest. Saha plans to address the team’s late-round play while retaining parts of its game that have worked, including performances from MATYS and HeavyGod during early full-buy rounds on Inferno’s T side.
The integration of Artem “r1nkle” Moroz remains in progress. Saha described the AWPer’s arrival as a change that was always expected to require time. G2 is trying to support Moroz while expanding his roles beyond familiar positions and routines.
“I like the mindset he has. I like the openness he has,” Saha said. “He’s doing a lot of the right things in that way, also mentally how he’s approaching the game and everything, so that side is good to see.”
