The role continues a partnership that began when Ronaldo first became global ambassador in June 2025. Organisers plan for him to lead global promotional campaigns before and during the tournament and to highlight leading players, clubs and match storylines. Ronaldo has more than one billion followers across social platforms.
Ronaldo appeared as a playable character in FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves during the Esports World Cup 2025. Organisers have not announced any specific game partnerships or in-game integrations for the 2026 tournament.
Mohammad Al Nimer, chief commercial officer of the Esports Foundation, described Ronaldo as the organisation’s ‘first choice’ because of his ‘global appeal, competitive mindset, and longstanding connection with gaming.’ He referenced Ronaldo’s previous collaborations with Garena’s Free Fire, EA Sports and Konami.
Ronaldo has been involved with the Esports World Cup since the event’s launch in 2023, attended the 2024 closing ceremony in Riyadh and served as the tournament’s global ambassador in 2025.
The Esports Foundation, formerly the Esports World Cup Foundation, announced it will release details of Ronaldo’s schedule, appearances and marketing activity for EWC 2026 in the coming weeks.
