Prince Faisal: Paris EWC Broadens Saudi esports Reach

HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud said relocating the Esports World Cup 2026 from Riyadh to Paris expands the tournament’s global reach and does not alter Saudi plans to develop its gaming and technology sectors.

The Esports Foundation approved the relocation in May 2026, citing regional security concerns. Organisers opened the seven-week competition on July 6, 2026, at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles with a $75 million prize pool. This is the first edition of the tournament held outside Saudi Arabia.

Prince Faisal, a member of the Foundation’s board, said the decision ensured a stable environment for players, fans and partners while preserving the Foundation’s long-term objectives for the Kingdom. He emphasised that investments in infrastructure, education, technology and local talent will continue in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 includes targets for the gaming and esports industry: the sector is projected to contribute about 1% of GDP, roughly SAR 50 billion ($13.3 billion), and to support the creation of around 39,000 jobs by 2030.

Organisers describe the Esports World Cup as part of a wider industrial plan to build local developer and production capacity, develop talent and attract investment. They expect the Paris edition to introduce new international partners and expertise that can be applied to projects in Saudi cities.

The Foundation said the move preserved a high standard of delivery for a global audience and maintained continuity for stakeholders while domestic programs continue to receive funding and support.

Prince Faisal issued a statement: “Holding this edition in Paris does not change our long-term vision or our commitment to developing the esports ecosystem in Saudi Arabia. The investments we are making in infrastructure, education, technology, local talent and the wider gaming ecosystem continue unchanged.”
