paiN sweeps Wildcard to stay alive at Esports World Cup

paiN eliminated Wildcard in the Esports World Cup 2026 Group D lower bracket on Aug. 16, winning the best-of-three series 2-1 across three maps and advancing to a do-or-die match against The MongolZ for a playoff spot. Wildcard are out of the tournament following the loss.

The series opened on Mirage, where paiN built an 11-1 lead in the first half and closed the map 13-7 after Wildcard attempted a comeback. On Nuke, paiN recorded a one-sided 13-3 win; Rafael “saffee” Costa opened with a triple using the AWP and put up a 2.10 rating on that map. Inferno required overtime after a back-and-forth second half, and paiN secured the map 16-12 to finish the sweep.

Individual statistics reflected paiN’s control of the series. Saffee finished with a 51-37 kill-death line, an overall match rating of 1.28, 80.2 ADR and a 73.4% KAST. João “snow” Vinicius went 48-36 with a 1.27 rating and 80.9 ADR. Rodrigo “biguzera” Bittencourt ended 43-38 with a 1.08 rating and produced a four-kill round on Mirage that halted Wildcard’s momentum and set up match point.

Wildcard’s starters were below the top performers on the scoreboard; no player posted a rating above 1.02. Jadan “HexT” Postma reached a 1.02 rating with a 39-42 K-D, while Danny “Cxzi,” Ethan “reck,” Miłosz “mhL” Knasiak and Nemanja “nEMANHA” Đukić finished with ratings under 1.00.

The match took place during the Group D lower-bracket stage of the Esports World Cup 2026 on Aug. 16. PaiN will face The MongolZ next in another elimination match to determine which team advances to the playoff stage.
