paiN keep IEM Cologne hopes alive with 2-0 win over FlyQuest

paiN defeated FlyQuest 2-0 at IEM Cologne Stage 2, winning Nuke 13-7 and Anubis 13-10; FlyQuest exit Stage 2 with a 0-3 record.

paiN beat FlyQuest 2-0 in a best-of-three at IEM Cologne Major Stage 2, winning Nuke 13-7 on June 6 and Anubis 13-10 on June 7. The result eliminated FlyQuest, who finish Stage 2 with a 0-3 record.

On Nuke, paiN opened with a strong T-side and built an 8-2 lead. FlyQuest took a late force-buy round after Joshua “INS” Potter converted a 1v2, but paiN regained control once Rafael “saffee” Costa secured an AWP. paiN closed the map 13-7.

On Anubis, paiN led 9-1 after early offensive rounds. FlyQuest won the final two rounds of the first half and then four straight on T-side, narrowing the gap. Individual plays from paiN halted the comeback: Guilherme “piriajr” Barbosa landed a three-kill with a Deagle, João “snow” Vinicius posted a triple kill on a B-site hold, and Vinicius “vsm” Moreira added key kills in the final round to finish the map 13-10.

Series statistics reflected paiN’s edge. Saffee finished 33-21 with a 68.0 ADR and a 1.32 rating. Piriajr ended 32-22 with a 78.4 ADR and a 1.19 rating. Rodrigo “biguzera” Bittencourt and snow contributed positive numbers across the two maps. For FlyQuest, INS led with 32 kills and 31 deaths, a 73.5 ADR and a 1.11 rating; Declan “Vexite” Portelli and Justin “jks” Savage recorded even stats but could not change the outcome.

FlyQuest reached Stage 2 after surviving Stage 1 by beating THUNDER DOWNUNDER and Liquid in best-of-three matches. In Stage 2 they lost best-of-one matches to 9z and Legacy before facing paiN, and the 0-2 loss to paiN ends their Cologne run with a 0-3 Stage 2 record.

After the series, Justin “jks” Savage acknowledged the team’s limited practice time and disappointment, saying: “We haven’t had the best year so far, and we’ve had limited practice time, and we’ve done the best with what we have. Obviously, it’s a bit disappointing. I’m happy we made Stage 2, but we were hoping to show at least a better face in Stage 2. Thanks to everyone who supports us, and we’ll see what happens next season.”

paiN advance to the next phase of IEM Cologne Major Stage 2. FlyQuest leave Cologne following the loss.
