Monte parts with IGL Gizmy after core joins Luminosity

Monte has parted ways with Jack “Gizmy” von Spreckelsen after the organisation’s core players left to join Luminosity. Gizmy posted on X that several members had signed contracts with Luminosity before the Cologne Major and that he will announce his next team soon.

The departure announcement came hours after the core informed Von Spreckelsen they were leaving. On X he wrote:

After the major, the core told me that they were leaving to LG, and had also signed contracts before the major. Pretty sad ending for a team I’ve led since the beginning, but that’s how it goes sometimes. Good luck to them in their new endeavor – will announce my new team soon.

Von Spreckelsen, 22, joined Monte Gen in 2023. He had two stints in the main squad, a short spell in 2024 and then an 18-month run as in-game leader starting January 2025. Under his leadership Monte reached Stage 3 of the Cologne Major and won three LAN trophies.

Commentators praised his tactical calling during his time as IGL, and his work helped raise the profile of the lineup on the international Counter-Strike 2 circuit.

Monte’s former core has signed with Luminosity, marking a return for the North American organisation to CS2. The Luminosity roster includes members of Monte’s previous lineup alongside other acquisitions. Gizmy stated he learned about the pre-Major contracts only after the tournament ended.

Reports have linked Von Spreckelsen to 100 Thieves as a prospective new in-game leader, with Håvard “rain” Nygaard expected to remain with that roster as a rifler. Monte has not released details on replacements or its plans following the departures.

Von Spreckelsen described the split as a sad end to a project he led from the start and repeated that he will confirm his next team soon.
