Malaysia’s 2027 SEA Games to feature 13 esports events

Esports will have 13 medal events at Malaysia’s 2027 SEA Games, with 11 for men and two for women. No mixed-gender events are planned.

The esports program will be held at the 34th SEA Games, scheduled for Sept. 18-29, 2027. Competitions will take place across four Malaysian clusters: Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang and Johor.

The men’s program will include eFootball Mobile 2v2, eFootball Mobile and console 2v2, eRacing Track Solo, eRacing Track Duo, Gran Turismo 7, Honor of Kings, Identity V, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile Team Open, PUBG PC Team Open and Arena of Valor Team.

The women’s events will be Honor of Kings and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. No mixed-gender esports events are included in the program.

The Southeast Asia Esports Federation and the Olympic Council of Malaysia released the details after the Southeast Asian Games Federation Executive Committee approved a final program of 473 events across 43 sports. Esports is listed as one sport with a single discipline divided into 13 medal events.

The venue for the esports competitions has not been officially announced. A video circulating online has indicated that the events could be held at the Imperial Hotel Kuching in Sarawak, which is above Boulevard Shopping Mall. The location remains unconfirmed by the federation and the Games organizers.

Dr. Nur Azmi Ahmad, deputy president of the Olympic Council of Malaysia and chair of the SEAGF Executive Committee, described the approved program as providing greater clarity for the 11 member National Olympic Committees preparing for the Games. “The approval of the final list of 473 events provides greater clarity for all 11 member NOCs of SEAGF to plan and intensify their preparations for the 34th SEA Games Malaysia 2027,” he said.

The 2027 Games will have more than twice the number of esports medal events held at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, which featured six official events.
