LPL teams go 0-4 in Worlds 2026 opening matches

All four LPL teams lost their opening matches in the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage on Oct. 23, marking the region’s first 0-4 start at the World Championship.

All four LPL teams lost their opening matches in the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage on Friday, Oct. 23. It was the first time every Chinese representative started the main stage of the League of Legends World Championship with a loss.

Invictus Gaming lost 0-1 to Gen.G, Top Esports fell 0-1 to Hanwha Life Esports, Bilibili Gaming lost 0-1 to Movistar KOI, and Anyone’s Legend was defeated 0-1 by Karmine Corp.

Invictus Gaming, Top Esports, Bilibili Gaming and Anyone’s Legend all entered the Swiss Stage directly without playing in the Play-In Stage. The LPL had recorded at least one win in its opening matches at every previous World Championship.

The four teams will enter Round 2 with 0-1 records. Their opponents will be selected in a draw from the teams that also lost their opening matches. Teams from the same region can face each other starting in Round 2.

No LPL team has been eliminated. A team is eliminated after three losses, while three wins secure a place in the quarterfinals. Matches that decide qualification or elimination will be played as best-of-three series. All other Swiss Stage matches will be best-of-one games.
