Legacy captain dumau: illness derailed Cologne Major run

Legacy exited the Cologne Major in Stage 3 after a 1-2 pool showing. Captain Eduardo “dumau” Wolkmer blamed squad illness and a lack of mutual support.

Legacy’s run at the Cologne Major ended in Stage 3 after a 1-2 pool record, following defeats to G2, MOUZ and Natus Vincere in Germany. Eduardo “dumau” Wolkmer identified illness within the squad and a failure to support each other as factors in the result.

Wolkmer described players falling sick on different days. He said arT and saadzin were very sick on one day, with coughing that disrupted in-game communication, and latto was unwell on another day. The physical symptoms, he added, affected the team’s mood and their ability to recover during the event.

He rejected Major nerves as the main cause, noting most players on the roster have prior Major experience. Wolkmer pointed to ongoing health problems and other internal issues as the primary reasons the team could not lift its level in Cologne.

The Brazilian side won the CS Asia Championships earlier this season, but Wolkmer said the Major was the squad’s main objective. He described the season as good because of the trophy, while saying Legacy did not handle adversities well at the Major.

“We were not helping each other,” Wolkmer said, adding: “We have to be 100% for each other. We cannot leave gaps and be 50/50.” He also referenced a similar bout of illness the team experienced in Bucharest and said the squad had not learned enough from that episode.

Wolkmer said the next steps are to review games and individual performances and to improve how the team manages player health, in-match communication under duress and internal support. Legacy will return to offline events with the season trophy but with those issues still to address.
