Karrigan points to Falcons’ struggles on map picks

Falcons beat FaZe in a three-map series at IEM Beijing, with Finn “karrigan” Andersen highlighting the team’s difficulty winning its own map picks despite taking maps selected by its opponents.

Falcons prepared for Ancient and Mirage before the match because FaZe was expected to choose one of them. Karrigan noted that FaZe had recently been selecting maps to challenge opponents, but Falcons had prepared for all three maps in the series.

The result continued a pattern that has frustrated Falcons. The team has won several opponent-selected maps but struggled on maps it chose itself. Anubis had previously been a strong map when opponents picked it, but Falcons did not produce the same result after selecting it.

“Anubis has been a good map when people pick against us, now we picked it, and now it didn’t feel as good today,” karrigan said. “As long as we grind and we win the games, it doesn’t matter how, because right now we just need to take the small wins we get and transform them into some momentum.”

The series was the first time karrigan faced David “frozen” Čerňanský as an opponent since leaving FaZe for Falcons. He described playing against former teammates as unusual, though he has previously faced players from organizations where he had played.

Karrigan also described the match as enjoyable and noted that FaZe played well. Mistakes at important moments allowed Falcons to take Mirage, he explained.
