IEM Cologne Day 2: BO3s Decide Stage 1 Advancement
On March 6, 2026 in Cologne, best-of-three series replace opening BO1s at IEM Cologne Major Stage 1 to settle 1-1 pool ties and decide which teams reach Stage 2.
Stage 1 of the IEM Cologne Major moved to best-of-three series on Day 2, following the opening day of single-map matches. Organizers scheduled BO3s to resolve 1-1 pool ties and to determine which teams advance to Stage 2 and which are eliminated.
The Day 2 schedule lists four 1-1 pool deciders. NRG meet FlyQuest at 12:30, and Sharks face Lynn Vision at 12:30. Liquid play MIBR at 13:30, and THUNDER DdU take on BIG at 13:30. Each pairing will be a best-of-three series.
Two matches originate from the 2-0 pool. GamerLegion play BetBoom at 14:30, and M80 face B8 at 17:00. The winners in the 2-0 pool can secure early advancement depending on Stage 1 outcomes.
The 0-2 pool features TYLOO against SINNERS at 14:30 and Gaimin Gladiators versus HEROIC at 17:00. Those BO3s give teams with two losses a final chance to remain in the event.
All scheduled series are listed with kickoff times. Each team must win its BO3 series to change its standing within the Stage 1 ladder; a series win can move a team toward Stage 2, while a loss can confirm elimination.
Broadcasters have packaged highlights and standout plays from the opening day for viewers who want a recap of key rounds and individual moments. The shift from BO1 to BO3 increases map time for competing teams and produces multi-map results rather than single-map outcomes.
Stage 1 is the opening competitive phase of the Major. Teams that advance from Stage 1 will continue to compete for places in the later stages of the tournament.
