HeavyGod: We outplayed Na’Vi as G2 clinch Cologne playoff spot
G2 clinched the final playoff berth at the IEM Cologne Major after a three-map reverse sweep of Natus Vincere; Nikita ‘HeavyGod’ Martynenko described the result as ‘a crazy result’.
G2 secured the final playoff spot at the IEM Cologne Major by defeating Natus Vincere in a three-map series. G2 lost Dust2 13-11, recovered on Inferno in overtime after giving up a 12-8 lead, and won Mirage 13-10 to complete the reverse sweep.
Dust2 ended when Ihor ‘w0nderful’ Zhdanov converted a 1v4 to close the map for Natus Vincere. Both teams dropped several advantageous rounds, including failed conversions of four-vs-one and other multi-player situations that kept each map close.
Nikita ‘HeavyGod’ Martynenko described the result as ‘a crazy result’ and added that he believed G2 had outplayed Na’Vi. He credited teammate support and coach timeouts with helping the lineup steady itself during momentum swings.
HeavyGod finished Stage 3 with a 1.33 rating across 13 maps, ahead of teammate Álvaro ‘SunPayus’ García’s 0.99. He outlined his role as an anchor and lurker, focusing on holding sites, catching timings and communicating intentions, and noted he still wants to improve small technical and mental areas.
G2 will rest briefly before preparing for a playoff opener against Spirit. HeavyGod downplayed bracket placement, adding the team will focus on preparation, unity and playing its style. G2 advances into a bracket that includes Vitality and Falcons.
