HeavyGod Leads G2 to 2-1 Win Over FUT at IEM Cologne

G2 beat FUT 2-1 during Stage 3 of the IEM Cologne Major, avenging an earlier Stage 2 loss to the same opponent. Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko finished the series with 48 kills, a 91.3 ADR and a 1.45 rating.

On Overpass, G2 recovered from an early 0-3 deficit on the T side after Guy “NertZ” Iluz produced a triple in the first gun round. G2 built an 8-4 lead before switching to CT and closed the map 13-5. The team lost the second pistol but won a follow-up forcebuy round and extended their advantage.

FUT won Ancient after a 3v5 retake attempt by G2 in the first pistol. FUT took the second round and led 7-0 at the half on the attacking side. Džiugas “dziugss” Steponavičius recorded 47 kills on the map as FUT completed Ancient 13-6.

Mirage decided the series. G2 won the opening T-side pistol but lost the second round when Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov landed three Scout headshots. Matúš “MATYS” Šimko replied with a Tec-9 double and G2 reached a 7-2 lead before FUT closed the half 7-5. G2 won the CT-side pistol but again dropped the second round; caster Hugo Byron commented, ‘No matter how you slice it, G2 suck at these second rounds.’ FUT tied at 8-8, then G2 regained the lead. HeavyGod produced a quad-kill at 10-9 and G2 finished Mirage 13-9.

Other series stats: Álvaro “SunPayus” García had 44 kills and a 1.26 rating for G2, while MATYS finished with 37 kills and a 1.03 rating. For FUT, Dmytro “dem0n” Myroshnychenko had 42 kills, Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov 41 and Aulon “Krabeni” Fazlija 34; Laurențiu “lauNX” Țârlea recorded 24 kills.

The result avenged G2’s previous defeat to FUT in Stage 2 and left G2 in the Stage 3 0-1 pool.
