GameSquare, U.S. Army to Stage Soldier Showdown 8
GameSquare will produce Soldier Showdown 8 with the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, featuring Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone.
GameSquare has partnered with the U.S. Army Installation Management Command to produce Soldier Showdown 8, an eighth consecutive year for the Army’s competitive gaming program. The tournament is presented by USAA and will focus on the battle royale titles Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone.
Registration opens June 25, 2026. Online qualifiers run from July through October, with weekly streams on the Army Entertainment Twitch channel. Top performers from the online stages will advance to live finals at the FaZe Esports headquarters at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
The tournament is open to active-duty U.S. Army soldiers, members of the Army National Guard and Army Reserve, and military personnel stationed on Army joint bases worldwide. Matches will use a cross-platform format and follow a battle royale structure, with online rounds feeding into the in-person finals.
GameSquare will provide production support and access to its corporate sponsorship network for the event. Prizes and gear for finalists will be supplied by the military retail agency, the Exchange.
Organizers are coordinating the event with the U.S. Army Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation to align Soldier Showdown with existing lifestyle and recreational programs at domestic and overseas installations. The integration with MWR aims to help reach soldiers at garrison locations and support community engagement around the tournament.
Justin Kenna, chief executive of GameSquare, described the program as a long-running effort to use competitive entertainment to build bonds among service members and noted the company will host the finals at its esports facility. Tim Hockenberry, U.S. Army BOSS program manager, said enthusiasm for the event is strong and emphasized the value of providing soldiers an organized opportunity to connect and compete outside of regular duties.
Soldier Showdown is the Army’s longest-running competitive gaming program and returns for a full season in 2026. Separately, the Military Esports League, organized by August Interactive, has secured infrastructure partnerships with SONIX for communications software and Associated Luxury Hotels International for hospitality support, reflecting ongoing development in organized gaming initiatives for military audiences.
