G2 parts ways with AWPer SunPayus
G2 confirmed AWPer Álvaro “SunPayus” García has left the organisation after 14 months; he was benched in June and is reported to be joining FUT.
G2 announced the departure of AWPer Álvaro “SunPayus” García, ending his 14-month spell with the organisation. SunPayus had been on the bench since June after Artem “r1nkle” Moroz replaced him.
SunPayus signed with G2 in July 2025 as the long-term replacement for Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov following m0NESY’s transfer to Falcons. About a month after his arrival, G2 won BLAST Open London 2025 with SunPayus on the roster.
Over the rest of his time with G2 the team often missed playoffs or lost in opening playoff matches. Individual statistics placed SunPayus among the stronger AWPers outside of the top-tier names such as m0NESY and Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, while he also faced criticism from parts of the community.
G2 moved to bench the 27-year-old to alter the team’s in-game approach and add a more aggressive presence. Coach Eetu “sAw” Saha provided context after the benching, commenting, “We needed someone more aggressive,” and adding, “I think he can still bring the right things to the right team.”
The club did not disclose contract details in its announcement. Multiple reports indicate SunPayus is expected to join FUT as a replacement for AWPer Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov, but those reports have not been confirmed by either organisation.
G2 confirmed the end of SunPayus’s 14-month period with the team.
