G2 beat BIG 2-1 to reach Esports World Cup playoffs

G2 beat BIG 2-1 at the Esports World Cup to secure a spot in the tournament playoffs. G2 won Cache, lost Ancient in overtime, and closed the series on Inferno. The result eliminates BIG from claiming the same automatic spot via the head-to-head outcome.

On Cache, G2’s CT setups repeatedly disrupted BIG’s slow-paced approach. Artem “r1nkle” Moroz made several entries ahead of smokes to get picks and escape before being traded. Guy “NertZ” Iluz controlled Middle on both sides of the map. Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko produced a three-kill Deagle sequence, and Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač posted multi-kill rounds that kept G2 in front on crucial rounds.

Ancient began in BIG’s favor. Jon “JDC” de Castro opened with a four-kill round and BIG reached a 10-5 lead at one stage. G2 mounted a comeback late in regulation, and Benjamin “blameF” Bremer pulled a 1v3 ace that helped force overtime. NertZ finished regulation on Ancient with a 127 ADR, but BIG took control in the overtime periods and won the map to even the series.

Inferno served as the decider. G2 took an early lead on the map and maintained it through coordinated CT formations and efficient T-side executes. BIG was unable to regain control, and G2 closed the map to win the match and secure the playoff spot.

Individual numbers reflected the match outcome. NertZ led G2 with a 57-36 kill-death line, a 94.6 ADR and a 1.42 rating. HeavyGod finished 43-39 with an 86.5 ADR and a 1.27 rating. HuNter- posted 51-39 with a 91.6 ADR and a 1.27 rating. For BIG, Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz had 41 kills and a 1.13 rating, and blameF totaled 43 kills, including the late 1v3 ace on Ancient.

The win advances G2 into the Esports World Cup playoffs; BIG is no longer able to secure the same automatic spot via this head-to-head result.
