G2 AWPer SunPayus credits curiosity for sharper focus

G2 AWPer Álvaro “SunPayus” García says trading judgment for curiosity improved his focus at BLAST Rivals in Texas after a three‑map playoff seeding loss to Vitality.

Álvaro “SunPayus” García is at BLAST Rivals in Texas and says trading judgment for curiosity has helped sharpen his focus during the group stage. He finished the groups with a 1.23 rating and played in a three‑map playoff seeding match against Vitality.

García posted a 1.35 rating in G2’s win over Astralis. Against Vitality he registered a 1.41 across the first two maps before a lopsided Dust2 dropped his series average to 1.15, leaving the team on the wrong side of the seeding match.

He credited improvements in his life outside the game for helping him stay mentally present in rounds. “I’m feeling better day by day,” García said, adding that he focuses on each round and treats mistakes as chances to learn rather than reasons for self-criticism. He described a shift from judging errors to asking how to fix them and what to take away.

On gameplay changes, García welcomed the recent Animgraph updates and pointed to more consistent spray behavior as the main benefit. He noted the aimpunch effect still needs work and reported only minor differences to AWP handling, suggesting slower peeks could help slightly but would not change his role dramatically.

García reviewed the Vitality series and identified a string of individual mistakes on Dust2. He outlined a missed pistol by huNter-, a forcebuy that broke G2’s setup, an eco round, and a five‑player contact on B in the first gun round that opened the map for Vitality. He also mentioned late rotations on Long and situations where MATYS was left isolated, which allowed the opponent to build nine T rounds.

Looking ahead, G2 will play in front of a live arena crowd in the United States. García expressed eagerness for the atmosphere and noted that rookie NertZ has been with the roster for about a month. He said the team has been working hard and must remain grounded despite recent progress.
