FUT beats FURIA in overtime to reach Esports World Cup final

FUT beat FURIA in an overtime Dust2 decider on Aug. 23 to win a three-map semifinal and reach the Esports World Cup grand final. The result is FUT’s first Big Event final appearance.

The series opened on FUT’s chosen map. cmtry and dem0n produced late-round clutches that helped FUT take a first-half lead. A collapse retake at 10-11 forced FURIA into low-buy rounds for the remainder of that map.

FURIA won the second map, Nuke, after controlling the Terrorist side. YEKINDAR completed a 1v3 and KSCERATO secured the pistol round with a triple using the Dualies, allowing FURIA to even the series.

On Dust2, FURIA converted an early forcebuy in round three with a two-kill from FalleN. FUT recovered from multiple disadvantaged situations, turning around two separate 3v5 deficits, including a pistol-round recovery, and later converting a 2v4 on B to reach match point in regulation. FURIA extended the match to overtime with a double backstab late in regulation.

In overtime dem0n turned a 4v2 into site control and closed the match with a 1v1 win over molodoy. cmtry finished the series with 55 kills and a +14 kill differential. xfl0ud and dem0n also recorded double-digit kill totals across the three maps.

FURIA produced high-impact rounds from KSCERATO and YEKINDAR on Nuke and in early Dust2 rounds but failed to convert several late-round and low-buy situations after the early economic setbacks on FUT’s map.

FUT will await the winner of Spirit versus Legacy in the final. The organization previously placed fourth at the ESL Pro League Season 23 Finals and is in its first full year competing at tier one.
