FlyQuest 2-0s Team Liquid to Reach IEM Cologne Stage 2

FlyQuest defeated Team Liquid 2-0 during the IEM Cologne group stage, winning Anubis and Inferno to advance to Stage 2 and eliminating Liquid from the tournament.

On Anubis FlyQuest began on the CT side and took an early lead. Liquid had not played Anubis in an official match for three months and were unable to find answers on the T side, managing only two rounds on that map.

On Inferno Liquid’s offense started poorly. FlyQuest built a 12-4 lead, widened the margin after Liquid conceded an anti-eco round, and finished the map with a straightforward A-site execute.

Individual statistics favored FlyQuest across the series. Joshua ‘INS’ Potter went 35-14 with a 1.83 rating and 103.5 ADR. João ‘story’ Vieira recorded 35 kills and a 1.31 rating. Declan ‘Vexite’ Portelli posted 31-18 with a 1.61 rating and Justin ‘jks’ Savage finished 32-18 with a 1.49 rating. Corey ‘nettik’ Brown ended 20-21 with a 0.95 rating. For Team Liquid, Jonathan ‘EliGE’ Jablonowski went 26-31 with a 0.95 rating, Keith ‘NAF’ Markovic was 19-30 with a 0.86 rating, Roland ‘ultimate’ Tomkowiak finished 16-29 with a 0.70 rating, Mario ‘malbsMd’ Samayoa was 17-33 with a 0.64 rating and Kamil ‘siuhy’ Szkaradek recorded 12-30 with a 0.61 rating.

FlyQuest advances to the next Swiss group at IEM Cologne and will face higher-ranked opponents including Spirit, Legacy, FUT and G2. FlyQuest reached this stage after earlier group wins over THUNDER DDOWNUNDER and Team Liquid.

Team Liquid are eliminated. Earlier in the season Liquid changed regions to the Americas and made roster swaps that included Guy ‘NertZ’ Iluz and Mario ‘malbsMd’ Samayoa. Liquid began the event with a 1-2 record in best-of-one play, registered a win over HEROIC, and then lost the decider to FlyQuest.
