FiReSPORTS details bid for 2027 Buenos Aires CS2 Major

FiReSPORTS has explained how it won Valve’s approval to host the Buenos Aires CS2 Major, planned for mid-2027.

Argentine tournament operator FiReSPORTS has outlined the process behind securing Valve’s approval to host the Buenos Aires CS2 Major in mid-2027. The event will be the second CS2 Major held in South America and will use two venues in Buenos Aires.

The process began in 2022 after FiReSPORTS staged the FiReLEAGUE Global Finals at Barcelona’s Camp Nou. Valve officials Brian Levinthal and Ido Magal then invited the company to submit proposals for the 2027 and 2028 Major cycles.

FiReSPORTS first submitted a 125-page operational proposal. Valve later asked the operator to reduce it to 25 pages. The company also presented its approach through events held outside traditional stadiums, including the FiReLEAGUE Buenos Aires 2025 at a subway station.

Valve confirmed Buenos Aires as a Major host city on June 9, 2025, during the BLAST.tv Austin Major. FiReSPORTS Chief Executive Officer Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes explained that Valve wanted to expand its group of tournament operators beyond the three companies that had traditionally hosted most top-level events. He attributed FiReSPORTS’ selection to its local experience and event concepts.

The early stages of the Major are planned for Usina del Arte, a cultural center with two auditoriums. The venue will have team booths facing each other and separate stages for co-streaming. The final four days are scheduled for Movistar Arena, which has capacity for 15,000 people. FiReSPORTS has allocated 14,000 tickets for the public and 1,000 places for guests.

The most expensive four-day ticket package will cost $700. Figueroa described the price as the lowest top-tier ticket price for a Major and compared it with European events where similar packages have cost more than $1,200. FiReSPORTS reported that 60% of the available tickets had been sold.

The City of Buenos Aires is providing institutional support rather than a direct cash subsidy. Its contribution includes three weeks of exclusive access to Usina del Arte, along with permits for public infrastructure and activities across the city. Data technology company Runestone is a confirmed commercial partner.

FiReSPORTS will combine its 20-person Argentine team with 27 specialists from Europe. The international staff will include observers and tournament administrators who have worked at several Majors. They will support tournament operations and broadcast production.

Figueroa expects Valve to revise its system for distributing in-game sticker revenue at ecosystem meetings linked to the Singapore Major. He did not provide details of possible changes.

After the Buenos Aires Major, FiReSPORTS plans to run an annual $1 million flagship tournament in Latin America or Spain. Its planned schedule also includes four regional tournaments, each with a $250,000 prize pool, in South America, North America, Europe and Asia, as well as its existing Last Chance Qualifier program.
