FIFA launches storytelling fund for eFootball and Rocket League

FIFA has launched the FIFAe Storytelling Fund to provide grants to digital creators, member associations, esports teams and individual community members producing narrative content about national teams, players, grassroots projects and tournaments in the eFootball and Rocket League scenes. FIFA is accepting submissions through a dedicated application form.

The fund operates across two streams: one for official member associations and another open to community-led projects. Applicants submit an initial concept and shortlisted candidates must supply a detailed budget breakdown and a formal pitch document.

Eligible formats include documentary series, podcasts, short promotional social videos, profiles of communities and players, and graphic assets for digital platforms. Proposals will be judged on five criteria: alignment with qualified players and national teams, a clear distribution plan, production feasibility, obligations for post-release reporting, and a mandatory rights assessment confirming originality.

FIFA noted funding for this first round is limited and that lessons from the initial cycle will inform future allocations.

The fund is linked to changes in FIFA’s competitive gaming programme. FIFA confirmed the FIFAe Finals will return in 2026 under an extended multi-year agreement with the Saudi Esports Federation, with both Rocket League and eFootball included on the event programme. Publisher Konami introduced a Challenger Series for the FIFAe World Cup 2026 that creates a qualification route across more than 110 member nations. FIFA cited 16.51 million participants at the previous year’s FIFAe event.

Applicants must detail how content will reach audiences, and grantees will be required to provide post-release data or summaries on performance and impact. The rights check is intended to ensure funded projects are original and free of legal encumbrances.

Payment details, the total grant pool and exact application deadlines were not disclosed. Applicants are directed to the application portal for submission requirements and timelines. FIFA indicated insights from the inaugural funding round will guide any adjustments to eligibility, scope and funding amounts.
