Falcons coach zonic hints at retirement after Cologne win

Danny “zonic” Sørensen, 39, spoke after Falcons secured the IEM Cologne Major title and indicated he is feeling tired after many long years in the sport. He made the comments during an onstage interview with Eefje “sjokz” Depoortere following the final.

He told Depoortere, “I can feel that I’m getting a bit tired. It’s been some long years. The kids are getting older.” On whether he will retire soon he added, “My wife is standing right there and it’s always up to her, we take it season by season. But yeah, I’m getting a bit tired now.”

The Cologne victory made Sørensen the only coach to reach six Major titles, the most by any coach in Counter-Strike history. His Major wins span his time with Astralis, later with Vitality and now with Falcons.

Sørensen joined Falcons in October 2023. The club’s owner, Msdossary, presented the appointment as part of a three-year plan with the aim of winning a Major within that period. Between Sørensen’s arrival and the Cologne win, Falcons’ only title was PGL Bucharest 2025.

Sørensen said the workload and family considerations will factor into any choice about continuing. He indicated he and his wife will assess his future one season at a time.

The club has not announced any change to his role. Sørensen now holds six Major coaching titles after guiding multiple organizations to tournament victories.
