ESL debuts m0NESY documentary ahead of IEM Cologne Stage 3

ESL released a short documentary profiling Falcons AWPer Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov ahead of Stage 3 of the IEM Cologne Major. The film is the first installment in ESL’s new series of player profiles at the Cologne event.

The documentary follows m0NESY from his earliest hours playing on his brother’s computer to life at home with his parents and his grandmother, whom he calls “his legend.” The piece features narration from m0NESY and interviews with family members, teammates and others close to him. It emphasizes personal background and routine rather than extended match footage.

The film outlines career milestones including m0NESY’s first contract with NAVI Junior, his transfer to G2 Esports and his work with Nikola “NiKo” Kovač. It recalls the onstage meeting with Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev at IEM Katowice 2022 and the team’s victory at IEM Katowice 2023, presenting those events as markers in his professional development.

ESL said the profile is part of a renewed focus on player-centered storytelling during the Cologne tournament. Valve previously commissioned short player documentaries for Majors more than a decade ago, and the format has appeared again at later events in different forms.

The documentary runs alongside the Cologne Major as teams prepare for the tournament’s decisive stages. It aims to offer viewers a view of m0NESY’s background, training and motivations through first-person narration and interviews rather than relying primarily on competitive highlights.
