Coolio: Ancient overtime drained FUT in EWC final

FUT lost 3-1 to Spirit in the EWC 2026 grand final in Paris. FUT won the opening map, then dropped Anubis and Ancient in overtime before Spirit closed the series with a 13-5 win on Nuke.

FUT led 12-9 on Ancient but failed to close the map and lost in extra time. Anubis also went to overtime after several after-plant situations went against FUT. On Nuke the team could not recover and Spirit recorded a 13-5 victory to secure the title.

András “coolio” Fercsák blamed the Ancient overtime loss for draining the squad’s energy and affecting their mental reset before the decider. “I think we couldn’t win a single duel,” he said, adding that they had good reads and setups but failed to convert individual fights.

Fercsák pointed to communication and experience as factors in the result, saying Spirit were sharper in reactions and calmer in clutch moments. He noted FUT struggled in late-round situations that might have changed the series, including multiple lost after-plant rounds on Anubis.

Fercsák highlighted the broader context for the team: the current lineup had a change roughly two months ago and reaching the final exceeded expectations. “First of all, I’m proud of the team because second place is something we didn’t expect before we came here,” he added, urging players to take confidence from the run in Paris rather than dwell on the loss.

FUT must turn quickly to BLAST Open Porto, where they will face Legacy in the opening round on August 27, 2026. Fercsák described his approach as realistic given the short turnaround and fatigue, and said he hopes the team can reset in the few days before Porto.

He also said the squad gained stage experience in a large arena and valuable repetitions with new lineup member xfl0ud, and that the team played many maps at the event to build experience for future tournaments.
