BetBoom meet Aurora as IEM Cologne quarters begin

BetBoom, the only team to start in Stage 1, face Aurora at 13:45 local time in the IEM Cologne quarter-finals; FURIA play 9z at 17:00.

The IEM Cologne Major quarter-finals take place today, June 18, at the LANXESS Arena in Cologne. Aurora and BetBoom open the day at 13:45 local time, and FURIA face 9z at 17:00.

BetBoom began their Major campaign in Stage 1 and are the only team still alive that started there. They went 3-0 in Stage 1, beating Gaimin Gladiators 13-4 and Liquid 13-9 on June 2, then defeating GamerLegion 2-0 on June 3. In Stage 2 BetBoom lost to Spirit 13-5 on June 6 but recorded wins over GamerLegion (13-9 on June 6), M80 (13-2 on June 7) and Monte (2-1 on June 8). In Stage 3 BetBoom beat The MongolZ 2-1 on June 11 and Falcons 2-0 on June 12, lost 0-2 to FURIA on June 13 and 0-2 to Vitality on June 14, then won a decider against FUT 2-0 on June 15 to secure a spot in the LAN quarter-finals.

Aurora advanced to the playoffs from the later stages of the event and will meet BetBoom in a best-of series for a semi-final berth.

FURIA and 9z are the two South American teams remaining in the event. Their match at 17:00 will decide which South American side reaches the semi-finals.

The tournament filtered teams through three stages of group play into the LAN quarter-finals. Today’s two matches at LANXESS Arena will determine the four semi-finalists who move on in the Major.
