B8 eliminated GamerLegion in a three-map series at the IEM Cologne Major, winning 2-1 with scores of 13-11 on Inferno, 8-13 on Mirage and 13-11 on Nuke. The deciding map featured a comeback from 2-9 down for B8.
On Inferno, GamerLegion opened with a 5-2 lead before B8 won three rounds to narrow the gap ahead of halftime. After the switch, a force-buy and a triple kill from Artem ‘kensizor’ Kapran shifted momentum toward B8. Oldřich ‘PR’ Nový responded with a 2v4 triple that put GamerLegion up 11-9, but B8 recovered a save round with pistols and then used multi-kills from kensizor and Andrii ‘npl’ Kukharskyi to close the map 13-11 on GamerLegion’s pick.
Mirage was controlled by GamerLegion. PR opened with an anti-eco ace and the team won eight of the first ten rounds. B8 took a couple of rounds before the break and won the pistol after the swap, but GamerLegion secured the rounds once they had rifles and finished the map 13-8.
Nuke began poorly for B8, who managed only two rounds while GamerLegion led 9-2. B8 then shifted to the attack and produced a series of clutch plays, including consecutive 1v2 wins in the pistol and the following anti-force, steady trades on site, and a response after dropping a half-buy round at 11-10. B8 took match point on the next round and closed out 13-11.
Individual performances: Oldřich ‘PR’ Nový led GamerLegion with 60 kills and a 1.33 rating. For B8, Andrii ‘npl’ Kukharskyi had 55 kills and a 1.30 rating, Artem ‘kensizor’ Kapran had 56 kills and a 1.22 rating, and Alexey ‘alex666’ Yarmoshchuk contributed key multi-kills in the comeback.
After the match, Janusz ‘Snax’ Pogorzelski reflected that B8 had not played like their usual selves in Stage 1 and Stage 2, attributing issues to pressure and stress and saying the team had trouble registering in-game information. He called the Major ‘a tough tournament’ but said it was also an experience for the team.
GamerLegion’s run at IEM Cologne ended with the loss. B8 advances to the next match in the Major bracket.
