Aurora beat M80 2-0 to stay in Esports World Cup
Aurora defeated M80 2-0 (13-9 Dust2, 13-9 Inferno) in a Group A elimination match at the Esports World Cup on Aug. 15, advancing from the elimination bracket.
Aurora beat M80 2-0 in a Group A elimination match at the Esports World Cup on Aug. 15, winning Dust2 and Inferno by identical 13-9 scores to move on from the elimination bracket. The match took place on the Esports World Cup stage and followed Aurora’s earlier loss to BIG in the event.
Aurora opened on Dust2 and built an 11-5 lead before M80 narrowed the gap late in the half with a 1v3 AWP clutch from Brad “SiN” Couvret. Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş recorded 23 kills on Dust2 and posted a 7-3 record in opening duels. Özgür “woxic” Eker went 5-0 in opening engagements on the map and Jimi “Jimpphat” Salo produced a 4-1 opening-duel mark. Aurora closed Dust2 13-9.
On Inferno, Aurora led 8-4 at halftime. XANTARES added 24 kills and eight multi-kills on Inferno. Aurora won the second pistol round, and a 1v2 by woxic put the team on match point. M80’s late attempts to recover fell short and the map ended 13-9.
Across the match XANTARES finished 47-25 with a 103.4 average damage per round (ADR), 79.5% KAST and a 1.67 rating. Woxic posted 37-26 and a 1.39 rating, while Jimpphat had 34-24 with an 84.1% KAST. Recent additions Damjan “kyxsan” Stoilkovski and Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalçın recorded 16-29 and 27-32 respectively.
For M80, Mason “Lake” Sanderson and Fritz “slaxz-” Dietrich were the top scorers with 30-32 and 31-29 lines. Other M80 players recorded lower ratings and the team was unable to overcome Aurora’s rounds on both maps.
Aurora coach Ashley “ash” Battye acknowledged the team’s uneven form since the roster changes. He said he had been “biting my tongue a little bit sometimes, like, ‘Okay, this is the way we play'” when describing moments of sloppy execution seen in practice.
Aurora reconfigured their lineup earlier in the season with kyxsan and Jimpphat joining the squad and produced mixed results at prior events. The win keeps Aurora alive in Group A; M80 will need to regroup after consecutive 13-9 map losses. Aurora’s next match will determine how far they progress in the knockout stages.
