Astralis to hire first foreign head coach after Ruggah exit

Astralis will hire its first foreign head coach after the departure of Ruggah, CEO Jonas Gundersen said. The vacancy is the first time the Copenhagen-based organization will seek coaching talent outside Denmark since its 2016 launch.

Gundersen described the decision as a response to a view that the team’s homogeneous Danish culture had at times led to complacency. “We’re going international,” he said, and added the club plans to build a more international performance culture while keeping Nordic roots and retaining Danish staff in the new structure.

Since 2016, Astralis’ head coach role has been held exclusively by Danes. The organization has not provided a timeline for the appointment and has not named any candidates.

Gundersen said the recruitment effort is intended to refresh the club’s performance methods and raise standards by bringing in a broader range of coaching experience. He noted Danish staff will remain involved as the search expands beyond Denmark.
