The MongolZ defeated Natus Vincere 2-0 in the IEM Beijing semifinal. Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren led the Mongolian team with 42 kills and a 1.49 rating across the series.
The MongolZ won Cache, NAVI’s map pick, after building an advantage on the attacking side. They also won several rounds with limited buys, including rounds in which they kept an AWP and purchased only pistols.
NAVI lost further rounds to pistols, which damaged its economy. Yesuntumur “nin9” Gantulga, Anarbileg “cobrazera” Uuganbayar and Sodbayar “Techno” Munkhbold produced key multi-kills as The MongolZ closed out the opening map.
Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov had a quieter performance on Cache after leading NAVI in earlier matches at the tournament. He improved on Inferno and helped NAVI recover from a difficult start.
The MongolZ won another pistol round at the start of the second half on Inferno. Techno then won a one-versus-two clutch to give his team the lead. NAVI mounted a late comeback, but The MongolZ won the map 13-11 and completed the sweep.
w0nderful finished the series with 37 kills and a 1.14 rating. Techno recorded 35 kills and a 1.20 rating. The MongolZ will play in the IEM Beijing grand final, while NAVI were eliminated.
