Counter-Strike 2 adds hold-to-silent reload, 3v3 Rush

Valve released a Counter-Strike 2 update on Steam that adds a hold-to-silent reload, a new 3v3 Rush mode, Premier map selection changes and multiple gameplay, map and settings fixes.

Valve rolled out an update to Counter-Strike 2 via Steam that changes gameplay, maps and settings across competitive and casual play. The most visible gameplay change is a hold-to-silent reload: players who press and hold the reload key perform a quieter reload that takes longer than a standard reload. Unscoping a sniper rifle no longer produces sound. The update also increases the clarity and fidelity of bullet impact decals and raises blood visibility.

The Premier map selection process has been adjusted to give teams more control over which maps appear in a match. Under the new flow, Team 1 picks one map, Team 2 picks two maps, and Team 1 picks a final map; one of the four chosen maps is then selected at random to begin the match. Valve added a new queued 3v3 mode named Rush. In Rush, players move through a sequence of randomly selected battle arenas toward the opponent’s castle; controlling the tower after eliminating the enemy team or when time expires determines the round winner.

Several user-facing settings and cosmetic options were restored or expanded. Clan tags can be set again for players who belong to Steam Community Groups via the player profile. The crosshair system was reworked to be resolution independent and relocated to a new “Crosshair/Scopes” settings tab with updated styles; the default crosshair is now listed as Dynamic Quad to better reflect weapon accuracy. Players can apply stickers to C4, and the Starjunk 95 Industrial Sunset Memories music kit was added to the in-game store in standard and StatTrak versions.

Valve updated Counter-Strike 2 to the latest Source 2 engine version and fixed multiple map issues. Notable fixes include gap and clipping repairs on Cache, reinforced scaffolding and a blocked pixel gap at Mirage’s Balcony into Palace, geometry and grenade clipping adjustments on Ancient, and a blocked pixel gap on Train’s bombsite A crates. The halftime scoreboard now reflects previous round results correctly, a case where players could avoid a kick ban has been patched, and music volume can now be set per game mode.

Gameplay limits and entity interactions were tightened. The ammo_grenade_limit_total setting now enforces the total number of grenades a player may buy in a round. Chickens can take damage from the Zeus x27 taser. Workshop creators received new entities including minimap_volume for custom minimap images, sky_camera_volume and sky_camera_volume_target for location-specific skybox rendering, point_deathcam_bounds to constrain death cameras, and env_shake_volume for localized camera shake.

Scripting and API additions include CSRadarPoint and CSObservablePoint entities, an AddTeamMoney API method, an OnPlayerTeamChanged callback, and support for localization strings in SetDialogVariableString. Valve’s published patch notes list the full set of changes. Players can now experience the silent reload and other adjustments in live matches, and map makers and scripters have new tools to create custom content.
